British Brown Bess Pattern 1777 Carbine. This is a late Revolutionary War Carbine that does not seem to fall into any one category. It appears to be made up with a mixture of parts. It is fully British proofed on the top of the barrel and tang and has a very large “H” stamped on the left side of the barrel. The butt has the store keeper’s mark and has the short land pattern side plate. The lock is engraved and is stamped with the inspector “Crown 6” and the contractor initials “S G” for Samuel Galton. The lock is 6 5/8” long. The underside of the barrel is marked “S G”. The carbine has a wooden ramrod with no entry pipe.
The barrel is 38 ½” long and the barrel pin spacing is similar to a carbine spacing. The wooden ramrod has a screw on one end and brass tipped on the other end.
The ramrod appears to be old but of a later period.
